Dream Drop PreCure!
Chapter 1 - Awakening
Hey there! I’m Arika Rime, the one in the back. With the blonde braid and the hazel eyes. I’m a first year here at the Academy, and I’m totally awesome. I love martial arts, climbing, the art of stealth, and magical girls! The only problem is - that’s not really something to be too proud of here at the Academy. There’s no girl’s MMA team, I’m not allowed to go exploring the grounds, and every time I even start to bring up Pretty Cure or Zenith, I get disapproving looks, and everybody abandons me. It’s not that bad, I guess. I’ve kind of gotten used to the loneliness, and a few of the animals on the edge of the woods are pretty friendly with me, and they seem to enjoy my music, but it’s just not the same as being with other people. I do have one friend, sort of. Her name’s Alex, and she’s my roommate. We aren’t the best of friends, but she listens to my Pretty Cure rants and we talk sometimes about music. That’s really what brought us together. We’re both attending the Academy for music courses, and we play totally different instruments, so sometimes we’ll try to play together, but we keep messing up until we just can’t take it anymore and we both burst out laughing at just how much we suck.
“Samantha! Can you explain the meaning of line eighty two?” Sam stood up, her auburn hair rustling against her uniform and seat as she rose.
“As I sat there, i discovered that, to my surprise, the curtains framing the window were blue.” She giggled, and sighed. “He means the curtains were blue, sir.”
“Yes, but what do the curtains symbolise?”
“Uh...the window’s role as a bridge into the outside world?”
“No. The curtains symbolise the writer’s despair and-“
“No sir. This was on “Silver Side A” not on “Platinum Side A” At this point in time, there was no sorrow to be symbolised.”
“Well. I stand corrected. I suppose the curtains were just blue.”
That’s Samantha Coran, but everybody calls her Sam. She’s tall, great with people, and a third year student here at the Academy. I’ve heard rumours that she’s in here for Language, but I’m pretty sure she’s actually after a career in law. Always the first one to jump into a disagreement, she’s become a masterful negotiator and she’s pretty good with getting everyone what they need. Sometimes she can be a bit of a loner, but she seems to be always busy, so it’s not too bad, I guess.
“EechUU!” Ione sneezed, and everyone, including the teacher, laughed. Ione seemed to have that sort of effect on people. No matter what happened, everything that she did was funny. It was no wonder everybody loved her. She could always lighten the mood. Like just now. The teacher had been frustrated with Sam for correcting him, but Ione distracted everyone for that split second that it took to get thoughts away from that and onto something new. She was one of the few first years to be on student council, and though it was a big job, she held her position with pride.
It was a dark night, but hey, duty called, and I like money. The guy that’s hired me to get these briefcases told me that tonight’s would be the last, and that it was worth almost two hundred thousand dollars. That’s a lot of money, and I wasn’t busy, so I took the job. As I crested the building, I laughed. Climbing in the city was so nice. I was only three blocks away from the pickup, and I was using the rooftops, so the trip would be easy. I ran across the roof of Kiki's, and jumped, catching a telephone wire, and pulling myself up onto it. I ran across it, thirty feet above the street, and climbed onto the sweets shop across the street. I crossed that building and hopped down a floor, landing on the balcony on the back of the building. I leapt across to the phone wire that ran down the length of the alleyway, and climbed up again. I took off, going towards the briefcase.
There it was. The briefcase was exactly where I had been told it would be. I jumped down off of my wire, and rolled onto the terrace of the Hotel California. I turned back to face the alley, and looked around. The alley was very narrow here, and other than back up the way I came, I only had 3 exits from the area. There was a good chance this might be a trap, but I wasn’t unprepared. I jumped down, carefully checking the path back towards 33rd, and discovered that there were shadows in the shadows. Great, it was a trap. Well, I wasn’t about to give up that money. I casually walked past the briefcase, checking the tunnel into the car park on Low road, and found that it was also guarded. I doubled back, knowing it was now or never, and grabbed the case. As soon as I did, I heard the wails. “It’s her! Get her! Don’t let her get away!” The shadows that had been around emerged from their hiding places, and chased after me. I ran back to the hotel’s terrace, but I couldn’t get a good enough grip to climb back up. Great. I turned back towards the tunnel to the car park, knowing it was my best bet, and I ran. Halfway through the tunnel, I realized that the other end of the tunnel, the one inside the carpark, was blocked by more people. They closed in fast, smiling, and I saw one last hope. I waited till the last dying second, and slid under the first wave of people charging at me, kicked the manhole cover on the ground up into the air, and dropped into the tunnels as the lid closed. Hopefully it would take them a while to open the thing up, so I would get the chance to get away. I only had to get back to the dorms. Once I was there, I could come up in the ruin, and climb my way home. Standing there on the cold hard stone, I performed a damage assessment of myself. Briefcase: Here Legs: Fine Pants: Ruined. Oh well. It would be much easier to replace my destroyed pants than it would ruined legs or a lost briefcase.
The rest of my night was mostly uneventful. I collected my pay, went home, and had a nice hot shower. After a few episodes of TV, I decided that ten was a pretty good time to go to bed, so I cleaned up and headed for bed. As I lay in bed, I thought of the briefcase, and of Miki, and what happened, and I fell asleep.
The next thing I know, I’m standing there on the side of the road. I can see there’s something going on at the end of the street, but I don’t know what it is. Naturally, I head in that direction. About a minute later, I realize there’s a cliff at the end of the street, and that there was somebody apparently hanging on for dear life. I start running, realizing what’s going on, and I don’t even hear the voices around me, because I already know what they’re saying. “It’s Miki!” They’re telling me. “She was too close to the edge when the last tremor happened, and now she’s fallen!” I get to the cliff, toss a ballast, and jump down to save her. I land about five feet above her and, hoping I’ve got enough rope, I slowly start my descent of the cliff face.
I was no more than six inches away from her hand, when I ran out of rope, and I heard a voice. “Let this dream become the blackest of nightmares!” There was a flash of darkness, and the branch Miki had been holding broke. She began to fall into the darkness below, but this time, it wasn’t real. This time was all a dream. This time, I could save her! I let the rope go and jumped down after her. A few short seconds later, I hit the bottom with a thud, despite me cushioning my landing. Miki lay on the ground in front of me, and a tall man in old clothes smiled at me from the other end of the cliff.
“You’re too late. You can’t save her anymore. Now surrender yourself to the darkness and become a shadow!”
“No!” I screeched. “You’re wrong!” as I spoke, I got angrier. This guy thought he could just invade my dreams and destroy me? Well was he ever wrong. “This is MY dream and I’m in control!” A strange light began to cover the area. “I’ll save Miki if it’s the last thing I ever do!” The light got brighter, and I threw my hand into the air. “White Thunder!” The light grew to the point of being unbearable, and suddenly, I felt an immense power within me. I had been struck by lightning.
The lightning changed me. Now I was in a short white dress, with my long hair let loose and extended out into a single long ponytail. I had these white shoes and fingerless gloves on, and apparently I looked pretty intimidating, because the other guy was visibly worried. “Shining light of hope, with dreams in the distance! Cure Prism!”
“What are you doing? Feel the oncoming darkness! Become a shadow!”
“NO!” I screamed. “NO! This is all your doing! But this is MY dream, and I am the one in control.” I took up a challenging pose, and gave him a daring look. “Now return to the abyss from whence you came.”
“If it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’ll get!” He held out his hand, and a dark ball started to form. “Now, nightmare!” He threw the ball at the ground, and a giant octopus emerged from the ground.
“Guardian! Dream Drop Precure!” I jumped back as the octopus started the fight with a low sweep. This was crazy. I was super light, super fast, super strong, and super durable. The octopus thing hit me again, and I grabbed its arm and threw it across the ravine. “Is that all you’ve got?”
“Not even close! Nightmare! Show that girl who’s boss!”
“Look out!” I heard a voice in my head. “You’re not capable of taking on a full power Nightmare yet! You have to cleanse it with Prism Crash!”
“Who are you? Why are you in my head?”
“That’s not important! Just cleanse the Nightmare for now!”
“Right!.. How?!”
“Summon the power of dreams! Focus it into something to fight against the Nightmare!”
“Right!” I dodged the octopus’ next attack, and jumped back. “This is my dream and I’m taking it back!” I raised my hand to the skies. “The dreams of the future, joined as one! NOW! Precure Prism Crash!” I brought my hand down, and a massive, glowing crystal crushed the giant octopus.
“NO! How could you defeat my nightmare?! You’ll pay for this in time!” The man disappeared, and I collapsed.
I awoke in my bed, but something was different. A small thing was in my bed with me. I leaned over to turn on the light, when, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” I nearly jumped out of my skin. “Your roommate’s a light sleeper. Come on downstairs to the common room, we’ll be able to talk there easier.”
I put my slippers on, and quietly went downstairs. When I got to the common room, I was met with the strangest thing I think I’ve ever seen. It was, well, it looked like a stuffed toy, but it was sitting on the coffee table slurping up instant ramen rather loudly. It finished its mouthful of noodle and jumped up. “Hello there! You must be Arika!”
“Er, yes. That’s me. I’m Arika. Who’re you?”
“Uh..You can call me Sakamoto, but-”
“Sakamoto? What kind of name is that?”
“It’s my name, that’s what! Anywa-”
“I’m going to call you Aerin.”
“Aerin? Ah, what am I saying? My name’s not important. What’s important is that you’re now PreCure! A legendary warrior of light, hope, and justice!”
“What?!” I almost fell over. What was this...thing talking about?
“Yeah! You’re PreCure now! Doesn’t the Cure Link in your hands tell you that already?”
“Cure...Link?” I looked down at the thing that had appeared in my bed while I was asleep. It was a small round pendant necklace, with a weird set of crystals set in the front. The largest crystal was a round white gem, almost like a pearl or a very round diamond. There was also a green crescent moon shaped crystal there, and it looked as though there was room for one more crystal.
“Cure Link. Y’know, the thing that you’re holding in your hands? It allows you to transform into PreCure, and to do other PreCure things, like Dream hopping, and using the Gates. Using Cure Drops, you can augment your powers, and, oh you know what, that’s not important right now! What’s important is that You’re PreCure, and I’m here.”
“This is great and all, but what does it mean?”
“Right. Uh, you have to protect people from nightmares. That’s what it means.”
“But what does that mean?!”
“Look, I’m kind of new to this whole thing. All I know is that you have to protect people from nightmares. You can now roam the Dreamscape freely while you’re asleep, so you should be able to use that to track and destroy nightmares.”
“Right. That still doesn’t tell me much, but I guess it’s better than nothing. Is there anything else you need to tell me?”
“I’m going to be living with you from here on out, if that’s important for you to know.”
“Uh, yes that’s important. How do you expect to be able to do that?”
“We’ll figure it out later. I hear someone coming, and it’s one in the morning, so you may want to get going.”
“Gack! Back to bed it is!”
It happened in math class. I was helping Iona with a problem when Aerin came running into the room. “Arika! Come quick! Something’s going on downtown!” His sudden appearance startled me, and I jumped.
“What’s going on here? What in the world is the meaning of this, Arika?”
“I-I don’t know, sir!”
“Mr. Tomoe, we don’t have time for this! Arika, come on, we’ve got a monster to stop!”Mr. Tomoe stood there for a moment, shocked. “Arika! Let’s GO!”
“Arika, go with that...thing. But I expect you to explain yourself afterwards.” I nodded quickly, and made off with Aerin.
“What’s with that? You can’t just show up in the middle of class like that!” Aerin stopped in front of a bookcase, and shrugged.
“It’s a little too late to change that now, isn’t it?”
“Well, you’re going to help me explain myself then.”
“Deal. Now c’mon, we’ve gotta get going.”
“Yeah, so why are we stopped here?”
“We’re going to use your power to get to the monster faster.”
“How?”
“Your Cure Link can do lots of things, including linking bookcases using the Mysterious Library on Mirrodin.”
“What?”
“Grab a book off the shelf.” I picked up a book. The title was rather interesting. Space and Time: The Basics. Suddenly, a spot on the shelf started glowing. “Push the books on that shelf right.” I pushed the books, only to discover a different spot was glowing now, on a shelf a little lower down. “Those books go left.” I pushed them left, and another spot started glowing.
“How long’s this gonna take?”
“Just, split the books at that spot.” I split the books, and suddenly, the entire bookcase started glowing, and I was sucked into the bookcase! I was spit out in an old, metallic library. The walls were covered in books, scrolls, and pictures. Aerin stepped out from the bookcase and took a deep breath. “It’s so nice to be back in Mirrodin. Unfortunately, we don’t have time to explore. We’ve got to get back to fight the monster. Hold your Cure Link up, and say ‘PreCure Chronicle Link’.”
“Right.” I did as he said, and held up my Cure Link. “PreCure Chronicle Link!” The books suddenly started to glow, and I was sucked into the bookcase again!
